Is Nitrates in Your Food Bad For You

It seems that every week there is a new food problem that people are worried about. One minute experts warn people about high fructose corn syrup, and then they talk about the dangers of fat in the diet.

Recently more and more people are concerned about nitrate in food. Some people may think that the nitrates’ concern in relatively new foods, but the debate about its presence in consumables has existed since the 1970s.

Before you can understand the recent nitrate controversy, you need to take a quick science lesson.

The difference between nitrite and nitrate.
Some people use nitrites and nitrate alternatives, but they are different compounds.

Both nitrites and nitrites are organic compounds composed of nitrogen and oxygen. The main difference is that nitrate has three oxygen molecules, and nitrites have only two oxygen molecules.

Nitrate is so common that it is found naturally in soil, water, and air. They are also very versatile compounds. Is Nitrates in Your Food Bad For You

Nitrate is used in a variety of foods. They can be used for dye food, and are widely used to preserve the recovered meat and dairy products.

They are also used for industrial purposes. You can find nitrates in explosives, fertilizers, as well as some types of enamel glass.

Certainly certain compounds are used for human use and industrial purposes. But there is something about nitrates and nitrites that make them dangerous.

Unpredictable reaction
Nitrate does not cause much health risk to animals, which is when they are converted into nitrites so that everything changes.

Nitrate is a stable compound, no nitrite. When nitrate is converted to nitrite, it can turn into nitric oxide or nitrosamine. Both forms of nitrite have a carcinogenic nature and are associated with many other health problems.

Nitrosamine is only formed in certain environments, they must be close to amino acids and in high heat. Unfortunately, many popular cured meats are cooked under these conditions.

Because nitrate in food is a controversial topic, some people may wonder how things that are harmful to humans can be safely processed. Is Nitrates in Your Food Bad For You

If you want to understand the use of nitrates in a diet that you have in common, you need to think of one of the most popular American foods.

Consider hot dogs
Like many nutritious nitrates, hot dogs are American specialties. They are very popular, easily available, and cheap to produce and buy. You will find it on almost every sports or BBQ event, and cut off almost every child’s plate.

Despite the popularity of hot dogs, this is one of the worst foods you can put into your body.

If you want an example of unhealthy levels of nitrate in the diet, do not miss out on hot dogs.

Nitrate is an essential part of average heat dogs. Unlike some meat, it is very difficult to treat it without using nitrate.

There is nothing wrong with the hot dog itself. After all, it’s just meat and bread.

The real problem is their way of processing with nitrates.

Nitrates allow hot dog meat to keep pink color and prevent it from damaging too fast. Without nitrates, it is impossible to process and convey it like ours.

Nitrate in food is a new norm
Nitrates have become an integral part of the conservation process, and the effect of most of their meat like hot dogs. Nitrate is also very cheap. Using it is the easiest way to follow meat demand in this country.

Almost every kind of meat you eat, regardless of whether it is healed, has been treated with nitrates. If nitrates are just in one type of food, it will be easy, but everything is in almost everything.

High nitrate levels can be found in popular fruits and vegetables. Natural nitrates in vegetables do not cause anxiety, but synthetic nitrates.

Nitrate is a popular additive in fertilizer. Fruits and vegetables grown in soil containing nitrates can easily take excessive compounds.

Nitrate is present in food so some companies rely on the use of other additives to counteract the adverse effects.

Many people do not know this, but hot dogs are processed with vitamin C (although most companies will list them as ascorbic acid on the label) as a way to fight strong nitrates.

It may be convenient for some companies to try to reduce nitrite damage

Tips To Prevent Frozen Pipes in your Home or Business

Few things are worse than a major property damage disaster. Do you know that up to a quarter-million homeowners have their homes ruined and their lives disrupted each winter because of frozen water pipes, frigid nights can very quickly turn to ordeals? Here are some tips to prevent frozen pipes in your home or business.

In cold and moderate climates alike, pipes freeze for a combination of three basic reasons: quick drops in temperature, poor insulation, and thermostat temperature set too low. While copper is more vulnerable, plastic and copper pipes can burst when they freeze, and recovering from frozen pipes is not as simple as just calling the plumber. A small 1/8-inch crack in a pipe can spew more than 250 gallons of water a day, causing flooding, serious water damage, and a real potential for mold growth.

Frozen pipes cause a big amount of damage when they burst each year; this disaster is largely preventable. If you take a few simple precautions, you can help save yourself by getting traumatic events.

Here Is What We At Octagon Recommend To Prevent A Major Water Damage Disaster in Maine or any other state.

Before Temperatures Get Too Cold:

– Thoroughly insulate your pipes as well as your basement or crawlspace to keep cold out. Heat tape or thermostatically controlled heat cables can be used to wrap pipes. Closely follow all manufacturers’ installation and operation instructions.

– Seal water leaks that allow cold water inside where pipes are located. Look for air leaks around electrical wiring, vents, and pipes, use caulk or insulation to keep the cold out. With severe cold weather, even a tiny opening can be found in cold water to cause pipes to freeze.

– Before winter hits, disconnect garden hoses, if possible, use an indoor valve to shut off and drain water from pipes leading to outside faucets. This reduces the chances of it freezing.

When It Does Get Below Freezing

Even if you’ve taken all the right steps, extreme weather conditions can still cause frozen pipes. The following steps can help:

– A trickle of hot and cold water may be all it takes to keep your pipes from freezing. Let warm water drip overnight, preferably from a faucet on an exterior wall.

– Keep your thermostat set at the same temperature during both day and night. You may be in the habit of turning down the heat when you’re away, but more drops in the temperature more common overnight could be enough to freeze pipes.

Before Leaving For Vacation

Traveling in the winter months might be a great remedy for cabin fever but do not forget these critical steps:

– Keep the thermostat in your house higher than 55 ° F (12 ° C).

– Have a friend or neighbor to check up on your house regularly to make sure it’s not at risk of freezing.

– Shut off the water main and drain the system.

When it comes to genetic editing, China’s academic science apparatus does not try to hide much. On the marble exterior of this university building in Nanjing, China, the name proudly reads “National Resource Center for Mutant Mice.”

Inside, shelves house rows of what looks like plastic lunch boxes, mice whose genetic makeup has been tweaked to allow the scientists to try out different kinds of therapies. Nanjing University was one of the first academic institutions to start using CRISPR DNA-editing technology when it was discovered in 2012, and they’re charging ahead.

Dr. Xiang Gao and his staff edit the genomes of mice to investigate the causes of human diseases at the genetic level. They have more than 4,000 strains of CRISPR-edited mice here. They’re used for investigating cures for cancer, blindness, and even obesity in the hope that their discoveries can be translated to humans in short order.

They’re closer than most. CRISPR on human cancer patients, and Gao says more are underway.

Mice have been used for decades for initial phases of testing because their genetic makeup is close enough to that of humans to make the results useful, or at least, indicative. But when it comes to tweaking human DNA, there is still, says Gao, the “human problem.” That problem is ethical. “When you cross it, there’s no way back,” he tells CBS News.
